De Eindhoven Diving Cup is vandaag officieel van start gegaan in het Pieter van den Hoogenband Zwemstadion in Eindhoven. De 26e editie van dit schoonspringevent is vandaag van start gegaan en feestelijk geopend door wethouder Rik Thijs. In zijn toespraak benadrukte hij het belang van internationale sport, talentontwikkeling en samenwerking
De openingsceremonie onderstreepte meteen de internationale allure van het toernooi. Namens European Aquatics sprak Anna Sorokina, Chair van de Technical Diving Committee, een dankwoord uit aan de organisatie. Zij benadrukte de rol van de Eindhoven Diving Cup als erkend internationaal evenement binnen de Europese schoonspringkalender en prees de professionele organisatie en lange staat van dienst van het toernooi.
Naast topsport speelt ook opleiding en ontwikkeling een centrale rol tijdens deze editie. De Eindhoven Diving Cup is officieel aangemerkt als ‘recognised event’ door European Aquatics en biedt daarnaast ruimte aan een European Aquatics juryopleiding (Judge Level 1). Daarmee draagt het toernooi actief bij aan de opleiding en evaluatie van internationale officials en aan de toekomst van het schoonspringen in Europa.
De openingsceremonie kreeg extra kleur door een demonstratie schoonzwemmen door Lareyna, zilveren medaillewinnaar bij de Europese jeugdkampioenschappen van 2025 en door mixduo Noa en Noah die daar ook zilver wonnen.
Op sportief vlak waren er de eerste wedstrijddag vele mooie sprongen te bewonderen. Verder maakte Steele Johnson in Eindhoven zijn officiële wedstrijdcomeback. De Amerikaanse schoonspringer, zilveren medaillewinnaar op de Olympische Spelen van Rio, liet zien dat hij het schoonspringen nog steeds op topniveau beheerst. Na blessureleed is de Eindhoven Diving Cup zijn eerste internationale wedstrijd sinds zijn terugkeer afgelopen november.
De eerste toernooidag stond daarmee niet alleen in het teken van sterke prestaties, maar ook van internationale erkenning, talentontwikkeling en kennisoverdracht. Kernwaarden waar de Eindhoven Diving Cup al 26 edities lang voor staat.
De komende dagen volgen wedstrijden in meerdere disciplines en leeftijdscategorieën, met verdere sportieve en internationale hoogtepunten.

There were many fantastic dives to admire on the first day of the competition. Next to that, Steele Johnson made his official competition comeback. The American diver, who won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics, demonstrated that he can still compete at the highest level. Having suffered an injury, the Eindhoven Diving Cup was his first international competition since returning last November.
