Spectacular start to anniversary edition of Eindhoven Diving Cup
The 25th edition of the Eindhoven Diving Cup got off to a spectacular start today. In a packed Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium, the international teams carried in their country’s flag. Maes van Lanschot, alderman for finance, sport, heritage and regional cooperation, kicked off the four-day competition. The Eindhoven Diving Cup mascot, Divy, was also present of course.
In honour of the tournament’s 25th anniversary, former board members of the Diving Foundation board members were put in the limelight to thank them for their efforts and passion for diving. They stood at the cradle of the Eindhoven Diving Cup, which now – 25 years later – has grown into an important international platform for talent development in diving.
Promising European Championship (EC) and European Youth Championship (EYC) opportunities
On the sporting front, the first competition day was full of highlights. Divers Maud van Kempen of PSV and Oona Abbema of Aquarijn showed a rock-solid performance by reaching their EC limit of 100%. Lars van Hilten of Aquarijn and Ismay Buijs of PSV achieved their limit for the EYC. To qualify for the EC or EYC Diving championships, they have to achieve this performance a total of two times within four competitions.
During the boys A platform competition, the first 9 of the tournament was scored! Nahuel Savino of Italian club U.S. Triestine Nuoto S.S.D. was awarded this for his handstand somersault from the 10-metre tower.
The Eindhoven Diving Cup is the first important qualifying event of the year and thus gives a good idea of their chances of international participation.
Scoop: mixed synchro 3 metres on the programme
There was also a ‘first’ at this anniversary edition of the Eindhoven Diving Cup: the introduction of the mixed 3-metre board for all age categories. Oona Abbema and Matthew Hibbert of Aquarijn managed to win this.
This new event adds an extra dimension to the competition and shows how the sport continues to innovate.

Spectaculaire start van jubileumeditie Eindhoven Diving Cup
De 25e editie van de Eindhoven Diving Cup is vandaag op indrukwekkende wijze van start gegaan. In een bomvol Pieter van den Hoogenband Zwemstadion droegen de internationale teams hun vlag binnen en Maes van Lanschot -wethouder van financiën, sport, erfgoed en regionale samenwerking- verzorgde de aftrap van het vierdaagse wedstrijdevenement. Toernooimascotte Divy was natuurlijk ook van de partij.
Ook werden de oud-bestuursleden in het zonnetje gezet ter ere van het 25-jarig jubileum. Zij stonden aan de wieg van de Eindhoven Diving Cup dat nu -zoveel jaren later- is uitgegroeid tot een belangrijk internationaal podium voor talentontwikkeling in de schoonspringsport.
Veelbelovende EK en EJK-kansen
Op sportief vlak was het direct een dag vol hoogtepunten. Schoonspringers Maud van Kempen van PSV en Oona Abbema van Aquarijn lieten een ijzersterke prestatie zien door hun EK-limiet van 100% te springen. Lars van Hilten van Aquarijn en Ismay Buijs van PSV behaalden hun limiet voor het EJK. Voor kwalificatie naar het EK of EJK Schoonspringen moeten zij deze prestatie in totaal twee keer neerzetten binnen vier wedstrijden.
Tijdens de jongens A-platformwedstrijd, werd de eerste 9 van het toernooi als score gegeven! Nahuel Savino van Italiaanse club U.S. Triestine Nuoto S.S.D. mocht deze in ontvangst nemen voor zijn handstand-salto-sprong van de 10 meter-toren.
De Eindhoven Diving Cup is het eerste belangrijke kwalificatiemoment van het jaar en geeft dus een goed beeld van hun kansen op internationale deelname.
Primeur: mixed synchro 3 meter op het programma
Er was ook een primeur op deze jubileumeditie: de introductie van de mixed 3-meterplank voor alle leeftijdscategorieën. Ook met dit nummer kon een kwalificatielimiet worden gesprongen. Oona Abbema en Matthew Hibbert van Aquarijn wisten dit te winnen.
Dit nieuwe onderdeel voegt een extra dimensie toe aan de competitie en laat zien hoe de sport zich blijft vernieuwen.
