What a fantastic first day to the 21st edition of the Eindhoven Diving Cup we had! In the morning the Junior Stars Girls and Boys, among others, competed on the 3m board and the men on the 1m board and the ladies on the 3m board came into action. The winner of the competition on the 3m board, Inge Jansen, was followed this morning by L1 TV. They made a report about her in the run-up to the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where Inge will represent the Netherlands on the 3m board. This report will be broadcast in a while.
The 31 teams from 17 different countries started today full of enthusiasm. At noon it was time for the official opening. Alderman for economy, Brainport, innovation, education and sport Stijn Steenbakkers has opened Eindhoven Diving Cup 2020 on behalf of the city of Eindhoven. After welcoming all attendees, he spoke about how important an event such as Eindhoven Diving Cup is for Eindhoven. Before he gave the official starting shot, he called Inge Jansen and Celine van Duijn to wish them every success during the upcoming Olympic Games. As a surprise, he also awarded both divers a Sports Medal on behalf of the city of Eindhoven.
The competitions that took place in the afternoon were partly recorded by Studio040. The reporter and cameraman made a nice impression of the first day of the competition and spoke briefly with the tournament director Christine Praasterink. The report can be viewed on the website studio040.nl, on YouTube and of course the socials of Eindhoven Diving Cup itself.
